Friction Stir Welding Symposium - Call for Papers

Seminars 20 November 2019

13th International Symposium on Friction Stir Welding
Kyoto, Japan on 26 - 28 May 2020

Call for Papers - Deadline extended to 20 November 2019

This is a unique global forum that provides the opportunity for professionals from around the world to share and develop scientific and technical knowledge on Friction Stir Welding.

The event will be supported by the Joining and Welding Research Institute, Osaka University. It will be held in Kyoto, once the capital of Japan. Kyoto is famous for its numerous classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines, traditional wooden houses and includes 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The venue will be the Kyoto ICC, one of Japan’s premier conference centres.

The event will include three days of oral and poster presentations.

An industrial visit will been organised by our supporters on 29 May 2020.

For more information about this event please go to the event website.

Call for Papers - Deadline extended to 20 November 2019

Papers are expected to describe new developments in science, technology, applications, industrialisation, performance, quality, design or any other topic relevant to the advancement of FSW. This can also include progress at an incremental level as well as more spectacular advances

An abstract is required, which should be ~300 words long. It must show the full title of the paper, names, affiliations, email addresses and full mailing addresses of all the authors and the requested presentation mode (oral or poster). The official language of the Symposium will be English. The abstract must clearly present background, objectives, methodology and results on a sound basis (innovative case studies, research data, practical experiences, investigations, etc).

Authors will be expected to attend the event and present their papers themselves. The author who will present the paper at the Symposium should be clearly indicated. Each leading author may submit no more than three abstracts.

Reports on work in progress are welcome, but this should be indicated in the abstract. If sufficient demand exists, we may arrange a special session with shorter presentations for newly emerging developments. Authors who may wish to participate in such a session should indicate this by the abstract deadline. A short abstract of the general topic area will be needed for such presentations (~200 words). Later submissions for "hot from press" presentations may be accepted if there is room available in the programme.

The deadline for abstract submission is 20 November 2019.

As well as the usual scrutiny for paper quality, the main criteria for acceptance will be

  • Clear evidence of progress in some aspect of friction stir welding.
  • Work of industrial or academic relevance.
  • Mostly unpublished work.

A decision about submissions will be fed back no later than 14 January 2020.

All papers and presentations must be written in English.

Accepted papers will be required by no later than 17 April 2020.

We are keen to invite suggestions on other ways of presenting and discussing research and developments which you may wish to suggest. Ideas should be discussed with the conference organiser Jonathan Martin.

To submit your abstract please go to the event website.
