Fifth International Symposium on Linear Friction Welding

Seminars 20-21 March 2019

There have been rapid developments in linear friction welding equipment, with increasing use of the process for more components in more industry sectors; whether it is for design freedom, lead times or "buy to fly" ratio over the last few years. This event is an ideal opportunity to keep up to date with the state of the art in LFW, and to network with key people in this specialist technology.

Call for presentations (after having registered)

A 100 word abstract for a presentation or poster at the event should be submitted by 14 December at the latest. The offer of a presentation is taken to imply that an author will be fully funded and therefore able to attend and present the work.  Please use the link at the top of the page to submit your abstract online.

Benefits of attending

The International LFW Symposium takes place at TWI every 2 years, and has grown enormously since its inception in 2011. This 5th International LFW Symposium event brings together major end-users, equipment manufacturers, universities and major research and technology organisations to share on their linear friction welding developments.

The event also takes place the day after TWI's Aerospace Industry Panel meeting, so TWI Industrial Members will be able to attend both meetings if they so wish. Details about the Aerospace Industry Panel Meeting can be obtained from Richard Freeman (Aerospace Industry Sector Manager).

Topics of discussion will be:

  • Equipment development and innovation

  • Industrial application

  • Industrial development

  • Academic simulation

  • Academic practical works

There will be an opportunities to book a tabletop exhibition and to display demonstrator equipment. There will also be a poster session during the event.

Networking Dinner on 20th March

The networking dinner will be held at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford in the AirSpace Exhibition hall. There will be an opportunity to look at the planes on display and watch the drooping of Concorde's nose. Dining will be under the wing of Concorde. There will also be live music from the Polka Dots.
