Aluminium and Aluminium Alloys - Properties and Applications

Technical Groups 04 April 2023

Materials Technical Group Webinar: Aluminum and Aluminium Alloys - Metallurgy, Properties, Fabrication and Applications

Aluminium and its Alloys are widely utilised in a range of industrial applications.  This meeting will provide an overview of alloy developments covering their metallurgy, properties and applications and will provide a strategic insight into the significance of these materials.  Aspects of welding aluminium alloys will also be explored in depth covering arc welding and alternative methods in particular friction stir welding. Potential issues that can arise will be identified and opportunities highlighted. Case studies will also be included.  The speakers at the event will include both TWI staff and External experts.

Who should attend this webinar?

Engineers, Technicians, Project managers, Consultants, Metallurgists, Materials Scientists, Researchers and Students.

Experts from industry and TWI will be presenting on a range of topics:

  • Jan Lukaszewski, Technical Manager ALFED - Understanding and selecting the correct Aluminium alloy
  • Gene Mathers, Consultant - Welding of Aluminium alloys - Back to Basics
  • Mike Gittos, Emeritus Expert, TWI -  Aluminium alloy weld metallurgical case study
  • Jonathan Martin, Section Manager, SYF & FFP, TWI - Friction stir welding of Aluminium alloys.
