Membership boosted by generating companies

Connect, no. 121, November/December 2002, p.2

TWI Membership in the power industry sector has recently been expanded by the recruitment of two independent generators from Northern Ireland.

Premier Power Ltd has taken up Membership covering their Ballylumford power station in Larne, Co. Antrim. Ballylumford is a 1057MW coal/oil fired station which has been operational since 1989.

Under construction is a new £200M CCGT (combined cycle gas turbine) power station on the site of the old coal fired 'A' station. When complete, this will produce 600MW of electricity with high efficiency and low pollution. AEA Kilroot Power Ltd (formerly NIGEN) has also come into Membership. They operate a 624MW coal/oil station at Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim. Both generators will now benefit from the full range of technical support available from TWI.
