Whether you are a first time user, looking to improve your bonding process or need help in choosing an adhesive type or joint design, the answer could lie in the new Adhesives Design Toolkit.
The Toolkit is a new DTI-funded project, part of the Measurements for Materials System Programme, which will develop a new web-based service to help UK industry access and use key information on adhesive issues. Much of the information already exists but for the first time it will be collated and organised to provide a systematic approach. Users can log-on via the internet and weigh up on-line the factors involved in the design and implementation of adhesive joints.
The web address for the Adhesives Design Toolkit is www.adhesivestoolkit.com. Planned modules for the Toolkit include: process selector, adhesive selection, stress analysis, failure criteria, manufacturing guidance, quality assurance and control, techno-economic factors, training and case histories.
The project is being lead by TWI and includes AEA Technology, MERL and the National Physical Laboratory as the other team members - all organisations with long-standing expertise in the development and use of adhesives. An Industry Advisory Group will meet regularly to monitor the project and will provide feedback to validate the toolkit.
