TWI is delighted to announce its involvement in a new metals Centre of Excellence to be located in South Yorkshire.
The new National Metals Technology Centre bringing together industry, research and academia was announced by Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt recently.
It will create a unique network and facility for UK metal producers, fabricators and users. It will also provide advice and expert help to small firms in the metals industry.
Located in Rotherham, it is an important part of Yorkshire Forward's plans to develop a high-growth 'cluster' based on engineering in the region.
Patricia Hewitt said: 'I am delighted to announce financial support to help establish the National Metals Technology Centre. This is good news for South Yorkshire and good news for the metals industry.
The centre will play an important role in ensuring that the UK metals industry is equipped to continue to be a world-class competitor in the future. I commend all the metals industry partners, including UK Steel, TWI, Casting Technology International and the Confederation of British Metal Formers for their vision and look forward to the National Metals Technology Centre becoming a reality.'
