2nd International Symposium on friction stir welding

Following the success of the 1st Symposium held in California this June, the Friction Stir Welding Licensees Association (FSWLA) has planned a second meeting to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden in June 2000. It will be hosted by TWI, ESAB, SAPA, Hydro Aluminium and IVF. High quality papers on all aspects of FSW will be presented covering process development, applications, modelling metallurgical studies, mechanical properties, corrosion etc. The Symposium will be open to all who have an interest in this technology.

Abstracts (1/2 page maximum) should be sent to Diana Fairmaner (FSWLA Administrator) to arrive by 17 December 1999. Read more about this event.

WJS Events

A seminar, European standards and directives - comply or die! will be held at TWI North, Middlesbrough on 9 March 2000. The programme is a shorter version of the conference held in June this year. It will include presentations from experts on all aspects of standards and directives in welding and allied processes.

The 4th National Conference of the WJS is scheduled for 17-18 May 2000 at TWI, Great Abington. The conference title will be Duplex in the millennium - a bright future. Further details will be available in March.

New developments in joining plastic pipes

TWI is running a one day seminar on 14 December 1999 at TWI North, Middlesbrough as part of the Pipeline and Offshore Technology & Training (POTT) technology transfer programme.
