TWI Training was represented at the first ever Indonesia Vocational Education and Training Summit (IVETS) 2019, which took place on the 9th and 10th of October at Grand Mercure Harmoni, Indonesia.
TWI’s Global Training and Technical Services (GTTS) Principal Project Leader, Neil Harrap, was on hand to deliver a talk about TWI’s work in Indonesia through the SEASEP project.
The SEASEP programme has been in operation since 2018 to provide sponsored training courses in Indonesia in collaboration with the Lloyd’s Register Foundation. The aim of the programme is to upskill people from under-represented groups in the region, providing skillsets to aid career progression while also encouraging safer working environments.
The two-day IVETS event took the theme of ‘Transforming Indonesia’s TVET System’ with the goal of broadening the perspective of senior educators in Indonesia along with international training providers as well as encouraging collaboration with the Association of Polytechnics and Industry.
This work aligns with the target set by Indonesia’s President, Mr. Joko Widodo, to build and develop vocational education across the country over the next five years. This target will involve both government and the private sector in a move towards Indonesian independence and economic sovereignty.
The summit provided an opportunity for Neil Harrap to meet many of the key industry players in Indonesia, discuss the SEASEP initiative and speak on the value that TWI can provide to the TVET system as a whole.
