TWI Malaysia hosted an event on automated NDT for welds and metals in collaboration with Olympus Singapore Pte Ltd.
During the talk, Dr Christopher Lane explained how advanced automated NDT techniques can assist the manufacturers of performance-engineered metal products with high-speed and high-reliability automated inspection to ensure the highest quality and safe operation in service to maximise production capacity.
The talk had a focus on the use of ultrasonic phased array probes in particular, as well as the advanced electronics to perform high-speed and high-sensitivity inspections. The basics of phased array technology was discussed and the event ended with a demonstration of the latest software that can significantly improve inspection set-up and collection speeds and automate the analysis of inspection data. This includes the latest total focusing method (TFM) technology.
The event, which took place on 14 November, attracted participants from various industry sectors, including those from oil and gas, inspection, testing and shipping. The interactive question and answer session, which was extended after the event was due to finish, was a proof of how the participants found the technical talk interesting and informative.
