Corporate Social responsibility is organisation’s legal and voluntary duty to think about the social and environmental impacts of its decisions and activities. It is a broad business concept that outlines the ways that an organisation contributes to sustainable development and engages with its stakeholders to endorse a corporate governance plan that has a positive influence on the world. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) plans are designed to ensure an organisation’s operations are beneficial for society.
TWI Ltd group policy includes ethics and equality policies, alongside the health, safety and environmental policy, which all feed into our CSR. We are dedicated to providing awareness of our corporate social responsibilities (CSR) at each of our offices around the world.
TWI Pakistan, as an international support subsidiary of TWI Global, is striving to implement CSR practices and policies.
In accordance with BSI standard ISO 26000:2010, TWI Pakistan has embraced:
- Corporate (organisational) governance
- Human rights
- Labour and fair employment practices
- Health, safety and environmental best practice
- Fair operating practices
- Community involvement and development
TWI Focus on Safety, Quality and Environment
Our Global Health and Safety Management Systems have been certificated to ISO 45001 since 2009 and TWI Pakistan's well defined health and safety policies and procedures provide a clear vision of the business as we continue to improve performance and respond to the growing needs of the business.
We have actively participated in the Prime Minister's 'Billion Tree Tsunami' campaign, with a vision of green growth, which ties in with the generation of green jobs and preserving Pakistan’s natural beauty while also addressing the issue of global warming.
In addition to that, TWI Ltd has also chaired the AIRTO Health and Safety Interest Group, which helps to benchmark health and safety performance with similar organisations. We also play an active role in the EEF Occupational Health and Safety, Health and Well-being (OHSHWB) leadership group.
All of our overseas and UK-based facilities, including our headquarters near Cambridge, England, have achieved certifications for environmental responsibility, such as ISO 14001. TWI’s quality and safety environmental team work tirelessly to ensure continued compliance with the standards.
Reduction in the carbon footprints at our premises and sites is a proof of our environmental commitment, and we will continue to strive to be conscious of our activities' impact on the environment.
Giving Back To the People
TWI Pakistan is committed to increasing the interaction with the local people and we are striving to interact with local communities by collaborating with schools, colleges and universities to support practical and creative initiatives, while providing awareness about advanced techniques and technologies in welding and joining processes, along with careers information, expert advice and guidance.
In addition to this, the National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC) at our headquarters has and continues to train hundreds of PhD students. TWI has shown its presence on the steering committee of the educational enterprise Form the Future, and is regularly engaged with STEMNet and STEM Team East. We also take pride in hosting educational industry tours of our regional offices.
We encourage our staff members to get involved in community activities, such as a providing Basic First Aid awareness at the Government Deaf and Defective Hearing School in Attock, Punjab, and imparting indispensable knowledge to help preserve life in an emergency. As an outreach community programme, we have actively participated in the Diving for the Disabled event at Kuala Lumpur in South East Asia and engaged in the Bateman’s Trust school project in both Chennai, India and in the UK.
In addition, TWI contributes to projects, activities, and local and national charitable initiatives that encourage community networking.
Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF) is a leading UK-based charity which supports activities related to the safety of the life and property across the globe. TWI and LRF have a longstanding and successful relationship, including initiating the 'South East Asia Skills Enhancement Programme (SEASEP)' few years ago. SEASEP is an important CSR programme which provides international vocational training to upskill people in South and East Asian countries, with a specific focus on improving safety standards in the work environment.
The South East Asia Skills Enhancement Programme (SEASEP) is an exciting opportunity to deliver a programme with international impact, tackle in-country skills shortages and reduce occupational fatalities by bringing engineering-related skills and education to disadvantaged and under-represented groups.
