Mr Jayakumar Johnson, graduated as a mechanical engineer from CSI College of Engineering, Ketti. Having already gained 18+ years of experience in various inspection and training activities, he began his career as a QC Engineer in 2002.
During his career, his jobs involved a wide range of activities including inspection and training in NDT of static equipment and piping, welding, painting, quality control, and examination and testing - including WPS and the Welder Performance Qualification test. Mr Johnson was also responsible for the technical review of engineering design, construction, erection and review documents and procedures. With his strong supervision and inspection skills, he shaped his career to the next level as Deputy Manager of QA/QC in 2008.
Mr Johnson was very well aware that certification is an important tool in any industry, and especially in the oil and gas industries. He completed his CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector and BGAS-CSWIP Painting Inspector Grade 2 in 2010. Having enough field experience and subject knowledge in the oil and gas field, he got the opportunity to lecture for welding and painting courses at TWI India.
He joined TWI India as a lecturer for welding inspector courses in 2012, covering all three levels as well as the Painting Inspector Grade 2 and 1 courses. Having completed 8 years of teaching both classroom and at client premises, he revealed that he enjoys sharing knowledge to new and experienced engineers equally well.
Mr Johnson has traveled widely across India and to various other countries to deliver welding and painting courses, including visits to Abu Dhabi, Angola, Dubai, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Having gained such rich training experience, he more recently became the manager for the welding department.
TWI India has received an overwhelming response for the CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector course under the South East Asia Skills Enhancement Programme (SEASEP), and it is worth mentioning that Mr Johnson has trained more than 200 candidates as part of this scheme.
Mr Johnson never fails to emphasize the importance and value of certification in the oil and gas industry, especially to young engineers during his sessions. He says certification is the key to open opportunities in this field and notes how your professional career and salary range improves based on certification, since it shows the competency of personnel. In addition, he says that your overall engineering skills can be enhanced by doing the right certification programme.
