Jacob Reveals How NDT Level 3 Will Improve His Career

Thu, 30 July, 2020

Soundar Jacob’s career started as a maintenance engineer, having completed his mechanical engineering degree from Anna University, Coimbatore in 2013.

He joined an organisation in Saudi as an ANDT inspector trainee, but at the same time, he completed advanced NDT certification in PAUT Level 2. Later, he converted his certification to CSWIP by taking up an examination with TWI India. Jacob stated that CSWIP NDT is very well known in the oil and gas industry, as the requirement worldwide is the ISO 9712 standard. He added that, to get qualified in top oil and gas industries, certification is a mandatory requirement.

Gaining enough experience in offshore jobs, Jacob then joined PESCO as an ANDT Inspector. His work included activities like PAUT and UT inspection of pipeline, corrosion mapping, document maintenance and QA/QC activities. Jacob has a great passion for NDT inspection jobs, and this interest motivated him to take up the advanced NDT Level 3 course.

He approached TWI India for CSWIP PAUT Level 3 schedule but, due to the current pandemic situation, we had to offer him the live online course. Initially he was hesitant about the effectiveness of the new live course. But Jacob revealed that after he completed our Zoom course, he was very happy and felt the training was just like direct classroom training. This was no doubt helped by the tutor having a one to one session with Jacob to help deliver the key concepts more effectively.

Jacob strongly believes that, by completing his CSWIP PAUT Level 3, he will have better understanding of NDT techniques and procedure.  He wanted to improve his job designation to the next level as an NDT coordinator, which was one of the key reasons for him taking up the Level 3 training.

Level 3 personnel are very important for EPC companies, with NDT Coordinators involved in activities like procedure making, and interpreting codes and standards. They have to communicate with client representatives in technical terms, as well as being able to provide technical advice and coordination to level 2 personnel in site related activities. Hence, the knowledge acquired by completing the PAUT Level 3 programme will help Jacob to perform his role effectively and efficiently.

TWI India would like to wish Jacob all the best for his new job role and we hope he attains success in all his future endeavours.
