First Ever Online Welding Skill Development Programme

Fri, 11 December, 2020

TWI India and NTPC Limited (National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) have a successful long-running relationship, which provided the opportunity for TWI India to conduct the first-ever online welder training programme for NTPC. The training was organised by RLI Sipat in association with General Manager (New Initiatives – Welding Research) Shri M.K Asthana from 26 November to 1 December 2020.

Online welding skill development training was conducted by TWI India for the welder trainees, welding supervisors and welding engineers of contractors working on NTPC projects.

Delivered via Microsoft Teams over five days, the training covered theory concepts, with around 60 candidates attending the session remotely from their site. The practical aspect of the course and examination will be conducted at the client premises as per lockdown relaxation rules.

Meanwhile, online welder training was organised for the first time at NTPC exclusively for their welders. The training covered basic fundamentals of welding processes, defects and their causes, welder tests, destructive and non-destructive testing, welding consumables and more. All of the topics were delivered in detail with relevant illustrations by our lecturer, Mr Santhosh Kumar Bingi.

This training was well attended and appreciated by participants from many projects including Telengana, Patratu, North Karnpura, Solapur, Dadri, Jhajjar, Vindhyachal, and Maitri project-Bangladesh.

During lecture, the candidates enthusiastically raised their doubts, which were all clarified efficiently by the tutor.  The candidates were very happy and interested to find out more about welding defects, their causes and remedies; welding techniques; how to identify the electrodes and so forth.

TWI India would like to thank Mr Manohar Krishna Asthana, general manager at M/s NTPC Limited, for giving this opportunity once again to showcase our service effectively.
