TWI Technology Centre (Yorkshire)

TWI Technology Centre (Yorkshire) is an extension of the resources at company headquarters in Cambridge, and complements TWI's work with key technologies:

  • Fibre Laser Processing
  • Friction Stir Welding
  • Laser Direct Metal Deposition
  • Cold Spraying

In addition, TWI Yorkshire runs a range of training courses, and enables its customers to access all of TWI's technologies and develop novel solutions through Technology Transfer programmes.

The Yorkshire Health Innovation Network (YHIN) partners include TWI, Medipex, Medilink (Yorkshire & Humber), BITECIC, Leeds IKC and IPI.

The Network draws upon the strengths of each partner to:

  • Stimulate future product/service pipelines
  • Access global expertise and 'futures' intelligence
  • Develop an innovative culture, utilising proven processes

YHIN is part of Solutions for Business, the Government's package of publicly funded business support designed to help companies start and grow and is supported by the region's development agency Yorkshire Forward and is part financed by the European Union's European Regional Development Fund which provides investment to support enterprise and business growth.

TWI Yorkshire is playing a key role in establishing a surface engineering centre of excellence - the Surface Engineering Group (SEG). SEG is run by the National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) and brings together the expertise ofTWI, Corus, The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University covering a wide spectrum of coating types and applications. TWI works with companies operating in industrial sector. The main industry sectors targeted by the Technology Centre are aerospace, automotive, medical and sports equipment, plus oil and gas, defence and primary metals, so if you work in these areas, you will find the activities of the facility particularly interesting.
